E.T.C. is able to deliver the following LEV and inspection services
LEV (Extraction) - It is a legal requirement that local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems are tested at not more than 14 month intervals. This should include workshops, Fume cupboards in Science areas and extraction in food technology rooms. E.T.C. will measure airflow volume and velocity at each extraction point to HSG.258 and BB.81 standards. Initial installation values will also be included in the report where available. (Fume cupboards in Science labs will be tested to the BB.88 standards).
Inspection - E.T.C. Is able to undertake comprehensive workshop inspections and will provide a detailed written report on both the teaching environment and each machine in the Design & Technology work area. The report will benchmark the existing provision against the various British Standards, HSE documents, Noise at work regulations and manufacturers data as appropriate. The list below gives a typical but not exhaustive range of the areas addressed. Actual coverage will match the school provision.
Lighting - Lighting levels at each machine will be measured and compared to minimum recommended levels. The appropriateness of the type of lighting will also be addressed.
Noise - All machines will have sound pressure levels measured (In dB [A]) during normal operation and with extraction running where appropriate and the results compared against Noise at work regulations and ear defender requirements.
Guarding and signage - All machines will be inspected to establish the condition and appropriateness of guards and the provision and position of appropriate signage will be reported.
Start and Stop controls - All machines will be inspected to establish the condition and appropriateness of the start, stop, emergency stop, interlock and isolation switches. Rundown times will also be recorded where required by the PUWER regulations.
Machine adjustments - All machines will be checked to establish the wear and adjustment tolerances as necessary for safe use.
Environment - the report will address issues such as provision of PPE, provision of storage for coats and bags, spacing between benches and machines and the typical capacity of each room based on the floor area and the guidance in the appropriate building bulletin / British Standard.
